Graduation Requirements

TheWASHS diploma will be awarded to students, including those in alternative education placements, who have successfully completed required credits.

 

Class of 2017

Graduation Requirements for the Class of 2017 include the following: 1.) Achieving 23.5 credits, 2.) Successful completion of the Graduation Project, and 3.) Completing the requirements for the Keystone Exams.

Credit Requirement

Students in the Class of 2017 will need to achieve 23.5 credits in the following areas:

4 Credits of English
4 Credits of Math
3 or 4 Credits of Social Studies
3 or 4 Credits of Science
.5 Credit of Personal Finance
1.5 Credits of Physical Education
3.5 or 4 Credits of Electives
1 or .5 Credit of a World Language OR Career Prep
.5 Credit of Health
1 Credit of Computer Applications
.5 Credit of 21st Century Communications

Credit Requirements for CareerTech Students

Students in the Class of 2017 attending CareerTech will need to achieve credits in the following areas:

4 Credits of English
3 or 4 Credits of Math
3 Credits of Science
3 Credits of Social Studies
1 Credit of Computer Applications
.50 Credit of Physical Education
.50 Credit of Health
.50 Credit of Personal Finance
.50 Credit of 21st Century Communications
2.5 Credits of Electives
9 Credits of Career Tech

Graduation Project

TheGraduation Project will consist of two parts.  Part I will requirecompletion of an approved research paper completed in Grade 11 English. Part II will require successful completion of the course "Foundationsof 21st CenturyCommunications" with a “C” or higher.  Students not achieving a “C” orhigher in this course will be required to re-take the course or completesummer school.

Keystone Exams

TheKeystone Exams are end-of-course assessments designed to assessproficiency in specific subject areas, as predetermined by the state. These exams are one component of Pennsylvania’s new system of highschool graduation requirements.  Beginning with the Class of 2017,students are required to demonstrate proficiency on three KeystoneExams (Algebra I, Biology, Literature) in order to graduate.  Studentsnot demonstrating proficiency are required to be enrolled inremediation.  Project-based assessments (PBA) may be utilized as analternative to the Keystone Exam for students who do not demonstrateproficiency after multiple attempts of the exam(s).

.50 Credit of Physical Education
.50 Credit of Health
.50 Credit of Personal Finance
.50 Credit of 21st Century Communications
2.5 Credits of Electives (2 are achieved in 9th grade year)
9 Credits of Career Tech
