PSAT

PSAT/NMQST & PSAT 10

PSAT/NMSQT stands for Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. It's a standardized test that provides firsthand practice for the SATReasoning Test™. It also gives you a chance to enter National MeritScholarship Corporation (NMSC) scholarship programs.

ThePSAT/NMSQT measures: Critical reading skills, math problem-solving skills, and writing skills. The most common reasons for taking thePSAT/NMSQT are:

  • To receive feedback on your strengths and weaknesses on skills necessary for college study. You can then focus your preparation on those areas that could most benefit from additional study or practice.

  • To see how your performance on an admissions test might compare with that of others applying to college.

  • To enter the competition for scholarships from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (Grade 11).

  • To help prepare for the SAT. You can become familiar with the kinds of questions and the exact directions you will see on the SAT.

  • To receive information from colleges when you check "yes" to Student Search Service.

To qualify for the National Merit Scholarship program, students must take the test in their Junior year. It is offered every October and often,Sophomore students will take it for extra practice. Unlike the SAT or ACT, students sign up at school to take the test. Listen to announcements in late September for instructions on how to sign up.

PSAT 10- is only for sophomores. The test date April 11 and the cost is 15$. Sign up in the guidance office to take the exam. With the PSAT 10, you can receive unique SAT practice recommendations from Khan Academy, access college planning resources, show colleges and universities that you want to connect with them, assess your skill levels and readiness for college and career, and get suggestions on how to improve your academic skills.

Sophomore students who plan to participate in the Penn State Mont Alto Early to College program during their Junior year are advised to take the PSAT in February of their Sophomore year so they can put their score on the Early to College application in October of Junior year.
