College Search



Searching for a college can be overwhelming. There are almost 4000 accredited, degree-granting, undergraduate institutions in the United States. How will you choose which one to attend? Many factors could be a consideration such as academic programs, size, location, cost and so on... Try to identify the factors that matter most to you. You could start with this chart. Don't choose a school just because your aunt or your cousin went there. A school that was a great match for your friend or relative may not be for you. The goal is to find a college that fits YOU.

The CollegeBoard's College Matchmaker can be used to do a thorough search according to many variables such as location, specific majors, athletics, special programs and a lot more. Petersons also has a fantastic site for searching. Campus Tours allows you to do a virtual tour of college campuses.

If you just want to get a feel for different types of colleges, we have a great variety in and around Franklin County. Wilson and Dickinson Colleges are both small private colleges. Hagerstown Community College or Harrisburg Area Community College could give you an idea of what community colleges have to offer. Shippensburg University is a moderate sized public state system school. Penn State University Park is about a two hour drive and could give you a feel for the large university experience. It never hurts to visit and check it out!
