The O-Net system serves as the nation's primary source of occupational information, providing comprehensive information on key attributes and characteristics of workers and occupations. O*NET stands for the Occupational Information Network and is developed under the sponsorship of the US Department of Labor/Employment and Training Administration.

The O*NET database houses occupational data and O*NET OnLine (onetonline.org) provides easy access to that information. The database is continually updated by surveying a broad range of workers from each occupation.

Information from this freely available database forms the heart of O*NET OnLine, and it allows for interactive application, exploration, and searching occupations. The database also provides the basis for Career Exploration Tools, a set of valuable assessment instruments for workers and students looking to find or change careers.
