Materials Processing 1

Materials Processing I provides an introduction to the tools and techniques associated with woodworking or manufacturing. Students will work individually and cooperatively to complete required projects. These projects will require students to read a working drawing, measure, layout pieces to plan specifications, and use a variety of tools and equipment to cut and shape these pieces. Students will safely use tools and machines to process material into a finished product. Students will learn simple joinery, characteristics of different materials, and various woodworking techniques. The application of manufacturing will be applied to these projects throughout this course. Emphasis will be placed on safety, using the equipment in a responsible manner, and project quality. All students will complete a written assessment on safety and tools. All student work will be assessed using a common rubric that will be presented at the beginning of the course. This class requires a $10 lab fee to cover the cost of materials. Students will be responsible for the cost of any additional projects. Students must earn a passing grade to move on to upper level Materials Processing courses.
