Graphic Design 1

Graphic Design I is designed for students who enjoy art, design, lettering, desktop publishing, and using technology. It is for intermediate level students who are interested in developing print graphic design skills to solve specific communication challenges that meet the client and audience needs. Students will learn graphic design principles, the design process, and project management skills such as interviewing clients, project scheduling, peer review, and redesign. Students will develop a variety of graphics such as logos, business cards, client advertisements, brochures, newsletters, and portfolios. This class provides a foundation for careers in graphic design including digital illustration, layout production, multimedia design, website design, and photography editing, and many more. Students will design using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign to demonstrate effective message planning, vector illustration, and page layout design. This class requires students to attend on a regular basis since the knowledge and skills are built upon throughout the semester and the client media are time sensitive. Students will be required to collect print media examples to be used for inspiration and analysis.
