Course Description

Biological Approach to Science
Biology is the science of life.  In this course we will begin the study of characteristics of living things, how they interact with each other and how they function.
Numerous laboratory exercises offer the student more of a "hands-on" approach to the major concepts. The course is designed to practice the scientific method and learn lab skills that will be used in future science courses.  Students will discover some of the hot topics in biology, use a variety of technologies, study discoveries impacting biology, and investigate careers in Biology. Evaluation is based on lab and projects, homework, quizzes, and tests. An average amount of homework can be expected. 

Applied Chemistry
Chemistry is the science of matter.  In this course we will study characteristics of atoms, elements, and chemical reactions.  Numerous laboratory exercises offer the students more of a "hands-on" approach to the major concepts. The course is designed to practice the scientific method and learn lab skill that may be used in future science courses.  Students will use a variety of technologies.  Evaluation is based on lab and project, homework, quizzes, and tests.  An average amount of homework can be expected.
