Mr. Herb's Introduction Letter

Mr. Herb's Introduction Letter

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to a new school year in Biology!  By way of introductions, I am Mark Herb and I will be your son’s/daughter’s biology teacher this year and I look forward to working with you.

I received my undergraduate degree in Biology from Penn State University and my Masters degree from the Pathology, Anatomy & Cell Biology Department at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA.  In addition, I completed my teaching certification at Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA.  I am currently pursuing my Masters in Educational Leadership at Shippensburg University.  Additionally, I worked as an Instructor at Gettysburg College teaching first year biology laboratory students.

Prior to pursuing my teaching certification, I worked in the biological sciences field in both research and commercial roles.  My career began as a research scientist at Johnson & Johnson and the Janssen Research Foundation working on various Drug Discovery Research teams.

More recently, I’ve held commercial roles in life science including Global Marketing & Product Management, Sales, Business Development, and Technical Training for a number of biotechnology and life science companies including Lonza Bioscience, Cambrex, Life Technologies, Invitrogen, GE Healthcare, and ZenBio, Inc.

My family and I live in Carroll Valley, PA.  I enjoy watching sports especially the Eagles, the Phillies and my Penn State Nittany Lions. I also enjoy spending time outdoors and fishing whenever I can!

In Biology this year, it is my hope that I can help students develop an appreciation for life science, its importance and relevancy in their everyday lives and to foster an interest in science as a life-long learner.

If you have any questions or would like to contact me at any point, I’d be happy to set up a time that is convenient for you.  Feel free to call me or email me at
