Mrs. Laura Richardson

My name is Laura Richardson, the Autism Support classroom teacher here at Mowrey Elementary.  It is an honor to teach our students and I look forward to getting to know each family!  I have 2 para professionals who work in our classroom as well - Mrs. Nickole Bricker and Mrs. Emily Rhodes.

We use an ABA program to meet the needs of our students here in our classroom and are very excited about their progress!

We meet our students at the bus or van at the start of the day, come in and unpack our backpacks, use the bathrooms, play and some have breakfast in our room.

By 9-9:15, we get into our groups for "cold probes" - a daily assessment that drives the ABA program and helps see when students master new skills after 3 knowing it 3 days in a row.  We teach throughout the rest of the day in our intensive teaching times (ITT's) and have manding sessions (where students learn to ask or request items they are motivated to play with or interact with.  Another bathroom break rounds out our morning.

Lunch is at 11:15 with recess with some other classmates to follow. We then come in for bathrooms and more groups/ ITT's until we go to specials from 1:10-1:50.  Each student goes to one of the 4 specials offered on a 4 day rotation.  My para professionals travel to either art, gym, library or music with our students.

We go out for our Gross Motor Recess after specials and then come in for our fine motor groups before we have snack, take our last bathroom breaks and pack up to go home.

Lots of fun and hard work occurs all day in our room and we love the time we have with our students!
