AP Language and Composition
AP Language and Composition focuses on informational and nonfiction texts. The purpose of this class is to enable students to read complex texts with understanding and to engage in academic writing to communicate effectively.
AP Language and Composition students look beyond the comprehension of a text. Instead, students analyze texts on various levels taking the speaker, occasion, audience, purpose, subject and tone into account to get a complete understanding of the author's choices and intended effect. In addition to rhetorical analysis, students improve their academic writing in the areas of constructing their own arguments and using various forms of resources as evidence of their thoughts and ideas.
Curriculum for AP Language and Composition is based on requirements issued by the College Board. For more information: https://apcentral.collegeboard.org/courses/ap-english-language-and-composition/course
