Junior Year

PSAT/NMSQT (October)

he PSAT helps prepare students for the SAT which is required as part of the college application process.  The PSAT results provide great insight into areas of strength and need when studying for the SAT.  It even provides individualized results through the College Board website (MyCollege Quickstart). Taken in the junior year, the PSAT automatically enters students into the National Merit Scholarship competition, where students can be given a significant amount of scholarship money. The PSAT is typically scheduled for a weekday and is given during the regular school day.

ASVAB Testing

The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is a multiple choice test, administered by the United States Military.  It is primarily used to determine qualification for enlistment in the United States armed forces. However, it is also an excellent career decision making tool for those students who do not demonstrate interest in the military.  The test is offered free to students sometime in November.  It is provided to all sophomore students, but any junior or senior with an expressed interest is welcome to sign-up in the Counseling Office to take the assessment.  Please listen to the morning announcements and look for an announcement on Sapphire in late October/early November for sign-up opportunities. Taking the test does not obligate students to any kind of military service.

Students who wish to play sports in college must register with the NCAA Clearinghouse. Go to the clearinghouse website to register.  Registration must be complete by the end of the high school junior year.
