Banned Books Assignment

Your Assignment: Your job is to research 6-8 banned books with a group of 3 people (including yourself.) This means each person is responsible for at least two books. You should go online and google banned books and choose 6-8 books together, and then each person is responsible for summarizing the book content and why the book was censored. You must find one website per book and you must summarize. I do not suggest using the first website you search for since you must get all your information off of that one site. Search around and then choose one. Reminder: Copying what the website says directly is plagiarism and your entire group will receive a 0.

Then you will create an annotated bibliography. Although this term sounds scary, it is actually quite simple. You will cite the websites that you used (use in MLA format and then you will write your paragraph underneath. See below for example.
After your annotated bibliography is completed, you will work on a group essay. The prompt is: How do boundaries, such as censorship, limit our freedom to choose and to express our opinions? Using books that you have selected (banned books) from your annotated bibliography, write an argument challenging or defending the book(s). Your essay should have an introduction, 3 body paragraphs, and conclusion.
See rubric.
An annotated Bibliography will look something like this:
Lamott, Anne. Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life. New York: Anchor Books, 1995. Print.
Lamott's book offers honest advice on the nature of a writing life, complete with its insecurities and failures. Taking a humorous approach to the realities of being a writer, the chapters in Lamott's book are wry and anecdotal and offer advice on everything from plot development to jealousy, from perfectionism to struggling with one's own internal critic. In the process, Lamott includes writing exercises designed to be both productive and fun.
